WHAT IS A PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT?

Whilst we can provide assessments for all ages, most assessments are conducted with school-aged children (5 to 18 years old) to examine reasons for academic, social, behavioural, or emotional difficulties.

These assessments can have different names, including psychological assessment, educational assessment and psychometric assessment.

On their own, psychometric tests only represent a small part of the picture.

To truly understand what is contributing to the student’s difficulties, it is important to gather information from multiple sources (i.e. parents and teachers) about past events and concerns as well as spending time with the student.  Only then, can a practical and useful report be provided that can aid parents and teachers in their roles with the student.

Assessments at Beyond Obstacles involves an interview with the student and parents, a range of standardised assessments and a questionnaire completed by parents (and where possible teachers/school staff).
